Deadline:
Apr 20, 2026About Coefficient Giving:
Coefficient Giving is a philanthropic funder and advisor operating within the effective altruism funding ecosystem. The organisation supports initiatives across multiple cause areas including biosecurity, air quality, global health, farm animal welfare, AI safety, and effective giving and careers. The Effective Giving and Careers fund supports organisations that help people pursue highly impactful careers — currently comprising around 20% of Coefficient's portfolio. Existing grantees include High Impact Professionals, Impactful Policy Careers, and Probably Good. Coefficient is actively seeking to increase the effective careers share of its portfolio, having been positively surprised by the growth potential of the ecosystem.
About This RFP:
Through this Request for Proposals, Coefficient aims to invite and encourage new and existing effective career organisations to apply for funding, pitch potential organisations and programmes they would be excited to see in the space, simplify the application process, and better understand current funding needs and gaps. This represents an active expansion of Coefficient's effective careers portfolio — they are looking for new grantees and new ideas.
What Counts as an Effective Career Organisation:
Defined as initiatives devoted to providing mentorship, advice, and opportunities to help people pursue highly impactful careers. This includes but is not limited to talent incubation or career fellowship programmes, career counselling/advising/coaching services, high-impact career networks, talent matching and/or headhunting services, and media pushes to promote effective careers.
Ideas Coefficient Would Be Excited About:
High-impact career accelerator or entrepreneurship programmes. Career coaching programmes for experienced or senior professionals. Volunteer or internship placement programmes at a network of impactful organisations. Country or demographic-specific talent efforts, especially in certain LMICs where many impactful charities operate or could operate (they cite India as an example). Career counselling partnerships with universities — partnering with career centres to promote high-impact pathways and recruit top talent. Programmes targeting policy students or people aspiring to work or already working in government — government or think tank placement programmes for global health and wellbeing policy areas, fellowship programmes for early-career policy professionals. A talent discovery programme using prizes or grants to surface and empower high-potential individuals across diverse backgrounds. Headhunting or talent matching services — proactive sourcing of senior professionals for hard-to-fill roles at high-impact organisations. Action-oriented networks for professionals in high-leverage positions — a network for professionals in finance, tech, or policy with structured giving or career pledges. Media pushes to promote effective careers — a podcast about effective careers with case study episodes. Infrastructure or shared services for effective career organisations — recruitment support, marketing or growth expertise.
Funding Structure:
Unrestricted general operating support is preferred — Coefficient considers this the most valuable type of funding. Also open to funding specific projects or needs. Grant structure may be influenced by the grantee's corporate structure. Most grants expected for one or two years. Non-renewable by default — though this does not preclude future applications. Existing grantees on renewable grants continue on their regular schedule but can apply for top-up funding.
Selection Criteria:
Coefficient's forecasts of impact and cost-effectiveness. Strength of the theory of change and plans moving forward. Track record (if applicable — new organisations can still apply). Scalability and growth potential. Strategic fit with current portfolio. The application form is designed to be comprehensive — Coefficient may reach out for additional information from certain applicants.
Nepal Eligibility and Relevance:
Nepal is relevant — Coefficient explicitly mentions interest in LMIC-focused talent efforts. The RFP states they would be excited about "country or demographic specific talent efforts, especially in certain LMICs where many impactful charities operate/could operate (e.g. 1:1 career advising and support in India)." Nepal qualifies as an LMIC where numerous impactful organisations operate — WFP, UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, World Bank, and dozens of INGOs and national NGOs. The India example suggests South Asia is within their geographic thinking.
Why Nepal Is Compelling for This RFP: Nepal has a large and growing pool of educated young professionals (expanding university system, returning graduates from abroad) who lack structured guidance on how to pursue high-impact careers. Nepal's development sector (INGOs, NGOs, government agencies, social enterprises) faces persistent talent gaps — qualified professionals are hard to recruit and retain, especially in remote areas and technical roles. There is currently NO dedicated effective careers organisation in Nepal — this would be a novel, gap-filling initiative. Nepal's government sector needs talent — local governments (palikas) under federalism have expanded mandates but struggle to attract skilled professionals. Nepal's social enterprise ecosystem is growing but lacks career pipeline infrastructure connecting talented individuals to high-impact opportunities.
Potential Nepal Career Initiatives That Could Apply: A Nepal-focused high-impact career advisory service — providing 1:1 career coaching to Nepali professionals seeking to maximise their social impact through their career choices. University partnership programmes — working with Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, and other Nepali institutions to promote high-impact career pathways in development, public health, climate, governance, and social entrepreneurship. Government and policy talent pipeline — a placement or fellowship programme connecting talented Nepali professionals with government roles (local, provincial, federal) in high-priority sectors like health, education, and climate. Development sector headhunting — a talent matching service addressing the chronic difficulty of recruiting qualified professionals for INGO, NGO, and social enterprise roles in Nepal, especially outside Kathmandu. Returnee professional network — connecting Nepali professionals returning from international education or careers with high-impact opportunities in Nepal. Career accelerator for social entrepreneurs — supporting early-career Nepali social entrepreneurs to build impactful ventures.
Who Could Apply from Nepal: Organisations already providing career guidance or mentorship to development professionals. University career centres interested in promoting high-impact pathways. Professional networks connecting talent to social impact roles. Social enterprise incubators with career development components. New initiatives — Coefficient explicitly welcomes new organisations and ideas, not just established ones. International organisations that could launch Nepal-specific programmes.
