Apr 20, 2026About McKinsey Next Generation Women Leaders:
Next Generation Women Leaders (NGWL) is McKinsey & Company's flagship programme for women's leadership development. McKinsey & Company is one of the world's most prestigious management consulting firms, with decades of experience shaping global leaders and cultivating impactful networks. NGWL runs across multiple regions worldwide — Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, and more — as part of McKinsey's commitment to investing in women's leadership potential. The programme is one of McKinsey's many worldwide programmes aimed at helping individuals get to know McKinsey better, but it is explicitly non-evaluative — participating does not constitute a job application or assessment. NGWL events are intended for women and are fully transgender and nonbinary inclusive.
NGWL Asia-Pacific 2026 — Programme Overview:
The 2026 Asia-Pacific edition is a hybrid programme taking place in May–June 2026. It is designed for ambitious women who are ready to make their next bold move — equipping participants with the insights, connections, and confidence needed to turn ambition into impact. The programme combines virtual and in-person elements, bringing together women from across the Asia-Pacific region for an intensive leadership development experience.
What the Programme Offers:
Programme Structure:
The programme includes interactive workshops led by McKinsey facilitators and leaders, inspirational sessions with McKinsey leaders and NGWL alumni, opportunities for questions and informal networking, collaborative exercises to shape leadership style, and ample time to get to know fellow participants in an informal setting. Throughout the programme, attendees enhance their leadership skills with a focus on personal and professional development — in particular confidence, the consulting toolkit, and communication skills.
Who Can Apply — Eligibility:
To be considered for NGWL Asia-Pacific, applicants must be currently based in or have very strong ties with the Asia-Pacific region. The programme is for women and is fully transgender and nonbinary inclusive. There is no specific age requirement, educational qualification, career stage, or industry restriction mentioned. The programme welcomes women from diverse backgrounds — not limited to business, consulting, or corporate sectors. Applicants must select an office preference when applying (India, Southeast Asia, Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, or McKinsey Global Services India).
How to Apply:
Applications are submitted through McKinsey's events platform, with separate application links for each office preference. Applicants select the office that best matches their location or ties. The application deadline is April 20, 2026. No cover letter is required. The application process is straightforward — applicants provide their information and background through the online platform.
Key FAQs:
Is there a fee to participate? No — the programme is free. Is NGWL evaluative? No — attending NGWL does not constitute a job application or evaluation. Participation does not affect future McKinsey applications positively or negatively. Can I apply if I was previously rejected by McKinsey? Yes — previous applicants who were not selected for McKinsey roles can still apply to NGWL. If I am not selected for NGWL, will it affect my future applications? No — not being selected for NGWL does not impact future role applications or event applications at McKinsey. Do I need to speak local languages? Check with the specific office — some sessions may be in English, others in local languages. Can I apply if I cannot attend the entire event? The FAQ suggests checking, but full attendance is generally expected for the best experience.
Nepal Eligibility and Relevance:
Nepal is in the Asia-Pacific region, making Nepali women fully eligible for this programme. The eligibility criterion states applicants must be "currently based in or have very strong ties with the Asia-Pacific region" — women living and working in Nepal meet this requirement. For office preference, Nepali applicants should most likely select India (geographically closest McKinsey office) or Southeast Asia, depending on their ties and preference. Applicants can contact NGWL_Asia@mckinsey.com to confirm the best office selection for Nepal-based applicants.
This programme is particularly valuable for Nepali women because access to world-class leadership development, mentorship by senior women leaders, and networking with ambitious peers across Asia-Pacific is otherwise extremely limited from Nepal. The McKinsey brand and network carry significant professional credibility globally. Women in Nepal working in consulting, development, business, technology, finance, social enterprise, government, or any sector where leadership skills are important would benefit. University students, young professionals, and mid-career women in Nepal with ambition to grow as leaders should consider applying.
The programme's focus on confidence, communication skills, and leadership style development addresses challenges that many women professionals in Nepal face — including navigating male-dominated professional environments, building executive presence, and developing strategic career trajectories. The peer network created through NGWL can provide lasting support and mentorship well beyond the programme itself.
What This Is NOT:
This is NOT a financial grant, fellowship, or scholarship. There is no cash award, stipend, project funding, or travel grant (travel arrangements should be confirmed with the team). This is a professional development and networking programme offered free of charge by McKinsey. The value is in the skills, connections, confidence, and mentorship — not in direct financial support. It should not be confused with McKinsey's employment recruiting — NGWL is explicitly non-evaluative.
