About AmplifyChange:
AmplifyChange is a multi-donor fund dedicated to breaking the silence on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). For over a decade, AmplifyChange has supported civil society organisations in Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East to advocate for change in SRHR. The fund is supported by the governments of the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, and is hosted by MannionDaniels.
AmplifyChange is focused on achieving long-term, sustainable change, recognising that collective actions are the best way to achieve change. The fund supports ADVOCACY — not service delivery — meaning it invests in the policy, legal, social norm, and movement changes that create lasting improvements in SRHR access and rights.
About the Strengthening Grant:
The Strengthening Grant supports advocacy work for small to medium civil society organisations that seek to bring about change in sexual and reproductive health and rights. This is a mid-size grant (£100K–£200K over 2–3 years) designed for organisations that are beyond their initial start-up phase but are still growing and developing their capacity.
A key feature: up to 40% of the grant can be used for organisational development and boosting organisational effectiveness. This is unusual and valuable — most grants restrict spending to programme activities only. AmplifyChange recognises that stronger organisations produce better advocacy outcomes.
Five Priority Themes:
- Violence: Addressing gender-based violence, sexual violence, harmful practices (child marriage, FGM), and creating safety for SRHR advocates and affected communities.
- Abortion: Advocating for safe abortion access, decriminalisation, reducing stigma around abortion, and ensuring access to post-abortion care.
- Inclusion: Ensuring SRHR access for marginalised groups — LGBTQI individuals, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, sex workers, people living with HIV, young people, and other excluded groups.
- SRHR Education: Advocating for comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), age-appropriate SRHR information, and knowledge of rights.
- Access: Advocating for improved access to quality sexual and reproductive health services including contraception, maternal health, STI treatment, and fertility services.
- Cross-cutting themes: Climate Justice, Pleasure, and Mental Health can be integrated into proposals across any priority area.
Five Outcome Areas:
- Increased awareness of SRHR as human rights.
- Policy and law reforms that improve SRHR access.
- Improved access to quality SRH services.
- More inclusive social norms and reduced stigma and discrimination.
- Governments ensuring funding for SRHR.
NOTE: At least 30% of available funding will be allocated to applications focused on "Governments ensuring funding for SRHR" — reflecting current global trends of decreasing government commitments to SRHR.

What Makes a Strong Application:
- Understanding how you connect to the wider SRHR movement and demonstrating how you are working towards the same change is critical.
- AmplifyChange is particularly interested in projects that: Are submitted by small to medium organisations seeking to grow and develop their capacity. Ensure adequate government funding for SRHR and appropriate allocation. Address root causes and drivers of discriminatory social norms and inequitable power relations. Scale up a successful idea or innovative approach. Implement a promising practice that has shown initial success. Empower marginalised groups to advocate for their rights and access to services. Work towards development, improvement, and effective implementation of laws and policies, including by-laws. Work in collaboration with others and have a clear role in the movement for change.
Nepal Eligibility and Relevance:
Nepal is explicitly listed as an eligible country. Nepal's SRHR landscape presents significant advocacy needs that align perfectly with AmplifyChange's priorities.
Nepal SRHR Context by Priority Theme:
- Violence: Child marriage remains prevalent — approximately 40% in some regions despite legal prohibition. Gender-based violence rates are high — domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking. Harmful practices persist in some communities — chaupadi (menstrual exile), dowry. SRHR advocates face social and political pushback.
- Abortion: Nepal legalised abortion in 2002 — one of the most progressive laws in South Asia. But access remains severely limited outside Kathmandu and major urban centres. Stigma around abortion persists in many communities. Unsafe abortions continue due to access barriers. Advocacy needed for implementation of existing law, not just legal change.
- Inclusion: LGBTQI rights — progressive legal framework but persistent social exclusion. People with disabilities face major SRHR access barriers. Dalit women face intersectional discrimination in accessing SRHR services. Ethnic minorities and indigenous communities face cultural and language barriers. Adolescents and young people have limited SRHR access and information. Sex workers face stigma and limited health service access.
- SRHR Education: Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is limited in Nepal's schools. Knowledge gaps among adolescents about contraception, consent, and reproductive health. Cultural taboos around discussing sexuality, particularly for girls and women. Need for age-appropriate, culturally sensitive SRHR education materials. Teacher training on CSE delivery is inadequate.
- Access: Rural and remote communities face severe gaps in SRHR services. Contraceptive access is uneven — long-acting methods less available outside urban centres. Maternal health services limited in mountain districts. STI treatment and counselling inadequate. Youth-friendly SRHR services are rare. Post-abortion care services limited.
- Government Funding for SRHR (priority for 30% of funding): Nepal government's health budget allocation for SRHR needs advocacy. Local government (palika) budgets for SRHR services need strengthening. Federal restructuring creates new opportunities for SRHR budget advocacy at all three tiers. Tracking and accountability for SRHR spending at national and sub-national levels.
Potential Nepal Applicants:
- SRHR Advocacy Organisations: CREHPA (Centre for Research on Environment, Health and Population Activities). FPAN (Family Planning Association of Nepal) — if budget within range. Beyond Beijing Committee (BBC) — women's rights and SRHR advocacy. Visible Impact — SRHR and gender advocacy. Youth-led SRHR advocacy organisations.
- Women's Rights Organisations: WOREC Nepal — women's rights, anti-GBV, SRHR. FWLD — legal advocacy for women's rights including reproductive rights. Feminist Dalit Organisation (FEDO) — intersectional SRHR for Dalit women. National Indigenous Women's Federation (NIWF) — Indigenous women's SRHR.
- LGBTQI Organisations: Blue Diamond Society — LGBTQI health and rights. Mitini Nepal — lesbian and bisexual women's rights. Campaign for Change — LGBTQI advocacy.
Youth Organisations: Youth-led SRHR advocacy groups. Restless Development Nepal (if independent chapter). Youth reproductive health networks.
- Other CSOs: Organisations working on menstrual health and ending chaupadi. Safe abortion access advocacy groups. CSE advocacy organisations. Organisations working on SRHR for people with disabilities. Community-based SRHR advocacy groups in underserved areas.
- Budget Eligibility Check: Average annual expenditure over past 2 years must be between £150,000 and £350,000 (approximately NPR 20 million to NPR 47 million). This eliminates both very small grassroots groups and large established NGOs. Nepal organisations should calculate their average carefully before applying.
